CANDLE CARE
Burning Guidelines
- The First Burn (Memory Burn) - Melt to the edge. On your first burn, let the candle run until the top layer of wax liquefies all the way to the edges of the jar to prevent tunnelling. This usually takes 2 to 3 hours. It sets a "burn memory" so the wax melts evenly on future uses rather than digging a hole down the middle.
- Time limit - Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Burning too long can overheat the glass vessel and cause the wick to drift.
- Location check - Place candles on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, fans, open windows, children, and pets.
- The stopping point - Stop burning your candle when there is about 10 mm (1 cm) of wax left at the bottom. Burning right down to the base can crack the glass.
Trimming the Wick
- Keep it short - Trim your wick to about 5 mm (roughly 1/4 inch) before every burn. Regular trimming stops the flame from getting too large, prevents black soot on the glass, and reduces smoke. You can use scissors or a dedicated tool like a Candle Care Set.
Extinguishing and Storage
- Use a snuffer - Avoid blowing out candles if possible, as it can cause the wick to smoulder and smoke. A candle snuffer or wick dipper helps put out the flame cleanly.
- Keep covered - When the candle is cool and not in use, cover it with a lid. This keeps dust off the wax and preserves the fragrance.
- Storage conditions - Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade the colour and melt the wax
DIFFUSER CARE
Reed diffuser Care
To keep your reed diffuser smelling fresh and lasting longer
Flip the reeds
- Turn them over about once a week, or whenever the scent becomes faint. Wash your hands afterward.
Use fewer reeds
- If the fragrance is too strong or runs out quickly, remove a few reeds.
Keep it away from heat and sunlight. Radiators, windowsills, and direct sun make the oil evaporate faster.
Place it somewhere stable
- Keep it away from children, pets, and areas where it could easily be knocked over.
Don't add water
- Top up only with the appropriate diffuser refill. Water can affect the fragrance and performance.
Replace old reeds
- When reeds become saturated or dusty, replace them rather than washing and reusing them.
Clean spills immediately
- Reed diffuser oils can stain or damage some furniture and painted/varnished surfaces.
For a stronger scent
- Use more reeds and turn them occasionally. For a subtler scent, use fewer reeds and leave them unturned.
